It was of great significance to many ancient cultures, and in particular to the Eastern religions. From ancestral times, the lotus regularly appears as a symbol of purity, peace, transcendence, enlightenment, rebirth, beauty, and fertility. Because of its purifying and protective virtues, the lotus oil has a lot to offer to the ‘ever-giving’ therapist. Lotus can be added to an aromatic bath or a massage blend, or diffused in the air as a way to recharge energies and clear away unwanted thoughts.
Many cultures regard the lotus flower as a symbol of enlightenment, purity, peace and beauty, and it is only recently that a method of extracting this rare and precious oil has been perfected.
Deeply relaxing, it brings peace and tranquillity to mind and body after a stressful day. Used in skincare it slows the signs of aging and is cooling and soothing to problem skin. The stabilizing action of lotus helps dispel negative emotions and thoughts, helping to strengthen relationships.
The Ancient Romans and Greeks used it to cure ailments such as asthma, rheumatism and internal problems. Its' purported healing powers have extended to epilepsy, jaundice, kidney and bladder complaints and even the plague. It has also been used as an aphrodisiac and to guard against witchcraft.
